Every guide on Atlanta Computers follows the same order a repair tech uses at the bench. This page explains that order, where the steps come from and how we keep guides current.
The order of checks
- Most likely cause first. Each guide opens with the cause that fits that brand and symptom best, in one or two sentences.
- Free checks. Hard resets, a different outlet or cable, a known-good charger, settings and updates. These cost nothing and clear a lot of problems.
- Parts. If the free checks don’t help, we name the part that is most likely at fault and how to confirm it before you buy a replacement.
- When to stop. Each guide ends the do-it-yourself steps with a clear line for when the device needs a repair shop or the manufacturer.
Where the steps come from
- BIOS and boot keys, reset sequences, error codes and part numbers are checked against the manufacturer’s support pages, service manuals or documentation, and we link to the source where it helps.
- When a step differs between model lines, the guide names the models it applies to.
- Personal notes from the bench are kept to what Marcus has actually worked on. We don’t invent repair stories or statistics.
Safety rules we always follow
- Unplug the device and, where the design allows, disconnect the battery before opening it.
- A swollen or puffy battery is always a stop: don’t charge it, don’t puncture it, and take it to a battery recycler or repair shop.
- Back up your files before any step that touches the drive or reinstalls the operating system.
Recommendations
When a guide suggests a part, accessory or piece of software, it is because it fits the fix being described. Affiliate commissions don’t decide what we recommend. See the affiliate disclosure.
Updates and corrections
The date at the top of each guide is the last time it was updated. Manufacturers change their software and support steps, so we revise guides when the steps change. If something in a guide is wrong or didn’t work on your model, email hi@atlantacomputersllc.com with the model number and we’ll check it.
